Description: It is a kind of erect, terrestrial, perennial herb, normally about 30-90 cm. high. Its leaf has a simple, alternate and lanceolate shape with 12-15 cm. in width and 30-40 cm. in length. It has pale yellow with light green flowers. The name of turmeric just mean "yellow root" in many languages.










Indications: Its rootstock has an aromatic and spicy fragrance. Its rhizome contains an essential oil, which contains a variety of sesquiterpenes, Most important for the aroma are turmerone, ar-turmerone and zingiberene. The fresh rhizome is grated and added to Thai curry dishes; it is also part of the yellow curry paste. Its tincture is used as a colouring agent.

Parts of Its Medical Uses:	a) Its fresh and dried rhizome is used as the treatment of peptic ulcer, indigestion, and flatulence,
	b) Its volatile oil dispels stagnant gas from stomach and intestine.
	c) Its curcumin also inhibits bacterial growth.
